BRO Completes Key Bridge on Rajouri–Reasi Highway, Enhancing Connectivity and Tourism in Jammu & Kashmir

Rajouri, Jammu & Kashmir: The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has achieved a significant infrastructure milestone by completing a new Bridge on Rajouri–Reasi Highway, strengthening connectivity along one of the region’s important transport corridors. The development is expected to improve mobility for residents, pilgrims, and defence personnel while providing a boost to tourism and local economic activity.

The newly completed bridge, located in Block Mogla of Rajouri district, spans 20.4 metres in length and 12 metres in width. The structure replaces an older and narrower crossing that frequently caused traffic disruptions, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall and overflowing drains. Officials stated that the deck slab has been completed and the bridge is expected to become operational shortly.

In addition to this achievement, BRO is simultaneously constructing another bridge measuring 18 metres in length and 12 metres in width. Temporary diversions have been established to maintain uninterrupted traffic movement during the construction period. The projects form part of broader efforts to upgrade the strategic Rajouri–Kalakote–Reasi–Katra–Jammu corridor, replacing narrow single-lane crossings with modern double-lane infrastructure.

According to GREF Mate Kamdev Singh, the previous bridge often became submerged due to overflowing drains, severely affecting transportation. He noted that the new bridges are being constructed with high-quality materials capable of handling heavy loads, including defence convoys operating in the strategically important Pir Panjal region.

Beyond connectivity, the infrastructure initiative has generated direct employment opportunities for approximately 100–150 local residents, reducing dependence on migrant daily-wage work outside the district. Local stakeholders believe the improved road network will stimulate trade, create economic opportunities, and facilitate easier access to religious and tourist destinations such as Shiv Khori, Jhandi Morh Shrine, and Tatta Pani.

BRO officials emphasized that the project aligns with the organization’s larger mission of integrating remote border regions with mainstream development. Once the entire corridor upgrade is completed, the improved infrastructure is expected to significantly enhance regional tourism, strengthen defence logistics, and contribute to the long-term socio-economic growth of the Rajouri–Reasi belt.
