The Council of Architecture (COA), in collaboration with the Amity School of Architecture and Planning, has announced a specialized five-day online training programme titled “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) for Urban Well-Being.” The programme is scheduled to be held from May 4 to May 8, 2026, targeting faculty members from architecture, planning, and design disciplines.

This Faculty Development Programme (FDP) aims to introduce and strengthen the integration of CPTED principles within academic curricula and professional practice. As outlined in the event material, CPTED offers a multidisciplinary design-based approach to improve safety, reduce crime, and enhance the psychological and social well-being of urban environments .
The training will run daily from 10:30 AM to 1:45 PM, with an End of Programme Test (EOPT) scheduled on May 8 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. Participants who successfully complete all sessions and assignments will receive an e-certificate.
Focus on Safer and Healthier Urban Environments
With rapid urbanization and increasing socio-economic complexity, cities often face challenges related to safety and inclusivity. The programme emphasizes how thoughtful urban design can directly influence crime prevention, community health, and overall quality of life. It also aims to bridge the gap between theoretical frameworks and real-world application by incorporating both global and Indian case studies.
Key focus areas include:
- Understanding CPTED as a framework for safer built environments
- Exploring the relationship between urban design, crime prevention, and public health
- Strengthening CPTED integration into architectural education and design studios
- Encouraging interdisciplinary collaboration across planning, sociology, and public health
Expert-Led Academic Initiative
The programme features an extensive panel of experts from leading institutions such as the School of Planning and Architecture, Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, National Institute of Technology Tiruchirapalli, and other prominent universities across India. These experts will deliver sessions focusing on both theoretical insights and applied methodologies in CPTED.
The initiative is convened by Prof. Jayashree Deshpande, Director of COA-TRC Pune, and coordinated by faculty from Amity University Chhattisgarh.
