New Delhi: The Delhi government has approved the implementation of the revised Delhi Slum and JJ Cluster Rehabilitation and Relocation Policy, 2026, extending the eligibility cut-off date for rehabilitation from January 1, 2015, to January 1, 2025.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. According to the Chief Minister’s Office, the revised policy is expected to benefit nearly 20 lakh residents, covering approximately 4–5 lakh families living in unauthorised jhuggi-jhopdi (JJ) clusters across the national capital.
By updating the eligibility criteria, the government aims to bring a much larger number of urban poor households within the ambit of formal rehabilitation and permanent housing. The move is expected to accelerate efforts to improve living conditions while supporting planned urban redevelopment in Delhi.
The government is also examining provisions to allow members of the same family who occupy separate dwelling units within a slum cluster to be considered for rehabilitation, subject to the payment of prescribed charges. If implemented, this provision could address the needs of larger and multi-generational families living in densely populated settlements.
The revised rehabilitation policy is yet to be formally notified. Once notified, it is expected to play a key role in expanding access to secure housing while strengthening Delhi’s broader urban renewal and inclusive development agenda.
