New Delhi: The Delhi Government has approved the construction of a new state-of-the-art campus for Dr. B.R. Ambedkar University Delhi (AUD) at Dheerpur with an estimated investment of ₹1,668 crore, marking a major boost to higher education infrastructure in the national capital. Announcing the decision, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the project would provide world-class educational facilities while strengthening Delhi’s position as a leading hub for knowledge, research, and innovation.

The new campus, designed by ARCOP Associates Pvt. Ltd., will be developed on a 50-acre site near Gandhi Vihar along the Outer Ring Road. The site adjoins the 65-acre Dheerpur Wetlands, which are being developed and maintained by the Centre for Urban Environment and Sustainability (CUES) of Ambedkar University Delhi in partnership with the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). The integration of the campus with the adjoining wetland reflects an emphasis on environmentally responsive planning and landscape-sensitive development.
With a built-up area of approximately 1.76 lakh square metres, along with 40,500 square metres of basement space, the campus has been planned to accommodate around 4,500 full-time students and nearly 2,000 students enrolled in part-time and short-term programmes during its first phase. According to the government announcement, the initial phase is expected to provide infrastructure for approximately 5,400 students.

The proposed campus will include modern academic blocks, a central library, administrative facilities, a 2,500-seat auditorium, seminar and conference spaces, exhibition facilities, cafeterias, a student centre, indoor and outdoor sports infrastructure, a health centre, guest house, crèche, and performance spaces. Residential facilities will comprise hostels for about 750 students and 256 faculty and staff housing units, creating a comprehensive academic ecosystem.
Academically, Phase I will accommodate seven schools—Schools of Undergraduate Studies, Liberal Studies, Development Studies, Human Ecology, Design, Culture & Creative Expressions, and Vocational Studies. The campus will also establish dedicated centres for Research Methods, Community Knowledge, Incubation & Innovation, Future Studies, and South Asia Studies, supporting interdisciplinary education and research.
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that a strong education system and empowered youth are fundamental to a developed Delhi, adding that the Dheerpur campus will play a significant role in shaping the capital’s future as a centre of academic excellence and innovation.
