The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) held its sixth and seventh rounds of stakeholder consultations on the Master Plan for Delhi 2047 (MPD 2047) with architects, planners and other professional stakeholders on Friday. The consultations focused on key spatial development policies aimed at shaping Delhi’s future growth and facilitating participatory implementation of the Master Plan.
The consultations covered major planning themes, including Transit Oriented Development (TOD), Land Pooling Areas, High Density Corridors and Low Density Areas. The sessions were conducted in line with directions from Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu, with the objective of improving stakeholder understanding of MPD 2047 and supporting its effective implementation.
The sixth consultation brought together architects, planners and representatives from organisations including the National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC), Council of Architecture, School of Planning and Architecture (SPA), Institute of Town Planners India (ITPI), Delhi Jal Board (DJB) and Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB). The seventh consultation was attended by development engineers, architects and planners.
Focus on Spatial Development Policies
During the consultations, the DDA presented an overview of MPD 2047 and its vision of creating a sustainable, green and liveable national capital. Stakeholders were briefed on the various spatial development policies proposed under the Master Plan.
Detailed discussions were held on the Land Pooling Policy, including DDA’s proactive role in the development process, mechanisms for land assembly, and the development of new road networks and other planned infrastructure in Land Pooling Areas.
The Transit Oriented Development framework was also discussed, including provisions relating to Residential Affordable Housing Zones. Stakeholders were further briefed on the proposed development of High Density Corridors along both sides of Urban Extension Road-II.
The consultations also examined policy provisions concerning Low Density Areas and redevelopment in planned areas covering residential, commercial and industrial zones.
Yamuna, Heritage and Mobility Planning
The O-Zone provisions formed another part of the discussions, particularly those concerning the rejuvenation of the River Yamuna and its floodplains.
Stakeholders were also apprised of provisions for heritage conservation, including the preservation and improvement of heritage buildings and sites. The Comprehensive Mobility Plan and provisions related to Transferable Development Rights (TDR) were discussed as part of the broader planning framework.
Another important area of discussion was In-Situ Slum Redevelopment. Stakeholders were briefed on schemes and policy provisions relating to slum rehabilitation and redevelopment.
The consultations brought together professionals and institutional representatives to discuss several interconnected aspects of Delhi’s future spatial development. The DDA’s engagement with architects, planners and other stakeholders is intended to facilitate wider understanding of MPD 2047 and support its participatory implementation.
