The meeting follows the LG’s recent site inspection conducted alongside Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, where directions were issued to prepare a comprehensive redevelopment strategy for the historically and culturally significant stretch along the Yamuna.

According to official communication, the proposed plan aims to balance heritage conservation with sustainable urban development. Key focus areas include integrating spiritual tourism infrastructure, enhancing green landscapes, and creating livelihood opportunities for local communities dependent on the riverfront economy.

The LG emphasized that the restoration approach should not be limited to beautification but must ensure long-term environmental and structural resilience. In particular, officials have been instructed to incorporate robust flood mitigation strategies, given the vulnerability of Yamuna Bazar to seasonal flooding.

Urban planners and environmental experts view this initiative as an opportunity to transform Yamuna Bazar into a model riverfront that reflects Delhi’s cultural identity while addressing ecological challenges. If executed effectively, the project could align with broader efforts to rejuvenate the Yamuna and improve public access to the river.

The DDA is expected to refine and present a detailed proposal in the coming weeks, outlining design interventions, implementation phases, and sustainability measures.
