A long-awaited pedestrian skywalk connecting the Aqua Line of the Noida Metro Rail Corporation at Sector 51 with the Blue Line of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation at Sector 52 is scheduled to open on February 1, 2026, offering much-needed relief to daily commuters in Noida.

The 420-metre-long, L-shaped, air-conditioned skywalk, equipped with a motorised travelator, has been designed to ensure a seamless and weather-protected interchange between the two metro corridors. According to NMRC officials, both civil and electrical works are nearing completion, and preparations are underway for inauguration.
Delays Due to Pollution Controls and Design Changes
Construction of the skywalk began in March 2023 and was originally expected to be completed within one year. However, progress was repeatedly disrupted due to construction bans imposed during winter months under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), implemented by the Commission for Air Quality Management to control air pollution in the NCR. Additional design modifications further extended the project timeline.

Daily Commuter Hardships to End
In the absence of a permanent connector, commuters travelling between Greater Noida and Delhi were forced to walk between the two stations along a narrow, congested footpath. The route was frequently obstructed by roadside vendors, parked auto-rickshaws, and pedestrian spillover, posing safety risks and discomfort—especially during peak hours and adverse weather.
A temporary covered walkway that once connected the stations had been dismantled to facilitate construction, leaving passengers exposed to traffic and environmental conditions for nearly three years.
Expected Impact on Ridership and Urban Mobility
As per NMRC data, the Aqua Line recorded an average daily ridership of approximately 65,700 passengers in December 2025. Officials anticipate that the opening of the skywalk will significantly improve passenger circulation, reduce interchange congestion, and enhance overall commuter safety and convenience.
Once operational, the skywalk is expected to serve as a key piece of pedestrian infrastructure, strengthening multimodal integration between Delhi and Noida’s metro networks and setting a benchmark for future transit-oriented urban connectivity in the NCR.
