ISOCARP Announces 62nd World Planning Congress 2027 in Wellington

Wellington, New Zealand | The International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) has officially announced that the 62nd ISOCARP World Planning Congress (WPC62) will be held in Wellington, New Zealand, from 27–30 April 2027. The global event is expected to bring together around 500 city planners, policymakers, researchers, urban designers, and development practitioners from across the world to deliberate on the future of sustainable and resilient cities.

Hosted at the Tākina Wellington Convention & Exhibition Centre, the Congress will focus on some of the most pressing issues facing cities and regions today, including sustainable urban development, climate change, regenerative planning, social equity, and technological innovation. The event will be organised in partnership with the City of Wellington, supported by WellingtonNZ, Te Herenga Waka—Victoria University of Wellington, Business Events Wellington, and Tourism New Zealand Business Events.

Recognised as one of the world’s leading forums for urban and regional planning, the ISOCARP World Planning Congress serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, collaboration, and showcasing innovative planning practices. The 2027 edition aims to foster meaningful dialogue among professionals from diverse disciplines while exploring solutions to contemporary urban challenges through international cooperation.

Set against the backdrop of New Zealand’s capital city, participants will also have the opportunity to experience Wellington’s distinctive urban landscape, sustainability initiatives, and progressive planning approaches. According to Elisabeth Belpaire, President of ISOCARP, New Zealand offers a globally significant perspective for rethinking the future of cities and regions. She emphasised that hosting the Congress in the Pacific places resilience, regeneration, Indigenous knowledge, biodiversity, climate action, and spatial equity at the centre of global planning discussions, reflecting the real-world challenges faced by communities in the region.

ISOCARP has invited urban professionals, public officials, researchers, academics, and development partners worldwide to participate in the Congress. Details regarding the Congress theme, technical programme, registration, and participation opportunities will be announced in the coming months.

The 62nd ISOCARP World Planning Congress is expected to strengthen international collaboration in planning and reinforce the profession’s role in creating inclusive, resilient, and sustainable cities capable of addressing the complex challenges of the future.
