Hyderabad | Telangana is reinforcing its commitment to cleaner and healthier cities by placing citizens at the centre of urban sanitation efforts under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U) 2.0. Through a structured 100-Day Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Action Plan, the state has promoted behavioural change, community participation and sustainable waste management practices across Urban Local Bodies (ULBs).

The campaign witnessed large-scale public participation, with 36,900 citizens joining cleanliness rallies covering 250 km during its launch. As part of a statewide door-to-door awareness drive, 27.09 lakh households were sensitised on source segregation of waste and home composting, encouraging responsible waste management at the household level.
Environmental sustainability formed a major component of the initiative. Under the ‘Amrut Mitra – Women for Trees’ programme, 24,708 saplings were planted with the participation of 10,704 women from Self-Help Groups (SHGs). On World Environment Day, another 13,488 citizens participated in rallies spanning 113 km, promoting greener urban spaces.
The campaign also focused on improving public health and urban infrastructure. Health camps benefited 25,386 sanitation workers, while 18,351 km of stormwater drains and nallahs were cleaned to reduce flooding risks and improve drainage. Additionally, 15.02 lakh households received seasonal disease prevention awareness, and 621 overhead drinking water tanks were cleaned to ensure safer water supply.
Supporting women’s empowerment, the state facilitated ₹1,045.04 crore in loans to 8,546 SHGs, while SHG products generated ₹77.12 lakh in sales through street food festivals and melas organised during the campaign. Building on these achievements, Telangana has launched a 99-Day Action Plan (March–June 2026) with renewed emphasis on sanitation, water supply, heat mitigation, citizen engagement and governance reforms. The programme includes awareness campaigns covering over 6.5 lakh households, cleanliness drives, Swachhata rallies, health camps for sanitation workers and citizen pledge initiatives aimed at creating cleaner, healthier and more accountable cities.
