Bharat Vandana Park in Dwarka Set for Phased Opening; Key Attractions to Open Soon

New Delhi: The much-anticipated Bharat Vandana Park in Dwarka is likely to open to the public in phases in the coming months, as the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has submitted a proposal for staggered inauguration to the Lieutenant Governor’s office.

Spread across nearly 200 acres in Sector 20, Dwarka, the park is envisioned as a large-scale cultural and recreational hub integrating green infrastructure, public spaces, and thematic installations. The project, which began in 2019 and was originally scheduled for completion in 2023, has experienced multiple delays, prompting authorities to adopt a phased opening strategy.

According to officials, the delays were partly due to height clearance restrictions imposed by civil aviation authorities, given the site’s proximity to the Indira Gandhi International Airport. The revised approach aims to operationalize completed sections while construction continues in other parts of the park.

The initial phase is expected to include several major attractions such as a meditation zone, a central water body named Vandana Sarovar with boating facilities, and expansive landscaped public spaces. Visitors will also have access to Pushpkriti Vatika, a themed floral garden, along with a “Wall of India” installation showcasing the country’s cultural diversity. A family-oriented fun park equipped with animatronics is also part of the first phase.

Additional amenities likely to be opened include lake-view decks, food kiosks, restaurants, open-air theatres, and performance plazas—positioning the park as a multi-functional urban leisure destination.

However, certain components such as the “Mini India” zone—designed as a map-based layout featuring replicas of iconic monuments from across states and Union Territories—may remain partially restricted during the initial opening phase.

Officials also indicated that operational preparations are underway, including allotment of kiosks and appointment of agencies for ticketing and maintenance to ensure smooth public access.

Meanwhile, construction will continue on the park’s signature feature—a 1.2-kilometre-long spiral sky bridge inspired by Singapore’s Gardens by the Bay. The elevated walkway, supported by nine architecturally expressive pylons, will rise up to 45 metres and offer panoramic city views. Designed with cable-stayed spans and reflective cladding, the structure aims to create a distinctive “mirror ribbon” visual effect.

The pylons, conceptualized as tree-like structures with branching steel members, will integrate vertical circulation systems including lifts, ramps, and staircases, enhancing accessibility across levels.

The project is being executed by National Buildings Construction Corporation Limited (NBCC), and officials note that the coming months will be critical for completing key infrastructural components.

With its phased rollout, Bharat Vandana Park is poised to emerge as one of Delhi’s largest integrated public spaces, blending landscape design, cultural representation, and contemporary urban infrastructure.
