Bengaluru: The Council of Architecture Training & Research Centre (COA-TRC), Bengaluru, in association with the Institute of Wood Science and Technology (ICFRE–IWST), Bengaluru, is organising a five-day offline workshop on “Advanced Wood Working Techniques” from 5 to 9 October 2026.
The programme is designed to provide architects, engineers, interior designers, students and other professionals with practical exposure to wood materials, woodworking techniques, joinery, machinery and digital fabrication. According to the Council of Architecture, the workshop will combine expert-led sessions, demonstrations, laboratory visits and hands-on learning.
Five-Day Programme
The workshop will cover different aspects of wood working and its applications across five days:
- Day 1 – Wood & Material Fundamentals: Wood anatomy and its relevance, wood literacy for architects, laboratory visits and practical woodworking insights.
- Day 2 – Hand Tools & Craft Techniques: Modern wood structures, understanding wood and its properties, practical projects involving joinery and finishing.
- Day 3 – Joinery & Connections: Wood seasoning and preservation, modular furniture and panel processing, and sample projects.
- Day 4 – Machinery & Digital Fabrication: Exposure to timber structures, machinery and digital fabrication, along with visits to real-world applications.
- Day 5 – Surface Finishes & Applications: Engineered wood and processing, bamboo housing, laboratory and pilot-plant visits, discussions and certificate distribution.
The programme will also feature sessions by scientists and trainers from IWST and the Advanced Woodworking Training Centre (AWTC), covering subjects such as wood anatomy, wood literacy, modern wood structures, wood preservation, seasoning, biodegradation, engineered wood and bamboo housing.
Venue, Timings and Fees
The workshop will be held at ICFRE–IWST, 18th Cross, Malleswaram, Bengaluru, Karnataka – 560003, from 9:30 AM to 5:30 PM each day.
The programme fee is listed as ₹8,000 for non-accommodation participants and ₹12,000 with accommodation. The accommodation package includes lodging, food and a training kit, according to the programme material.
The last date for registration is 4 October 2026, with the workshop commencing on 5 October.
Focus on Practical Woodworking Skills
The programme brings together architectural education and specialised wood science and technology. IWST’s Advanced Woodworking Training Centre has been established to develop skills in handling advanced machines and tools used for wood and wood-based products. The institute also conducts training in advanced woodworking and related technologies.
The workshop is therefore positioned as a practical learning programme for professionals and students interested in understanding wood not only as a construction and interior material but also in terms of its processing, preservation, fabrication and contemporary applications.
