Gurugram: The foundation stone has been laid for the much-awaited Gurugram Metro corridor, a landmark project aimed at transforming urban connectivity in the Millennium City.

The ₹5,452.72-crore metro project will be executed by Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) — a joint venture between the Centre and the Haryana Government — and developed in two phases: Phase 1 covering 15.5 km and Phase 2 spanning 13 km. Civil works for Phase 2 will commence after Phase 1 is underway.
Project Highlights
The 28.5-km elevated corridor will link Millennium City Centre (DMRC Yellow Line) with Rapid Metro Cyber City, while passing through Old Gurugram. The alignment will feature 27 stations, connecting major hubs such as:
- Subhash Chowk
- Hero Honda Chowk
- Udyog Vihar (Phases 4, 5, 6)
- Basai Village
- Sector 5 and Sector 3
- Palam Vihar Extension and Palam Vihar
A 1.85-km spur line from Basai Village to Dwarka Expressway will provide direct access to a new metro station at Sector 101. A metro depot is also planned at Hero Honda Chowk.
Expected Benefits
According to officials, the corridor is expected to:
- Ease traffic congestion across key stretches of the city
- Reduce air pollution by promoting sustainable mobility
- Save travel time for commuters
- Generate new employment opportunities during and after construction
Future Expansion Plans
Planned future extensions of the network include routes such as Rejangla Chowk–Dwarka Sector 21, Sector 56–Pachgaon, and additional corridors like Delhi–Karnal, Delhi–Neemrana, and Gurugram–Noida via Faridabad.
