New Delhi: The Delhi Government has announced a major renaming initiative aimed at giving new identities to several public institutions, metro stations, and civic landmarks across the city. The move includes the renaming of hospitals, metro stations, chowks, and a sports complex in different parts of Delhi.
According to X Handle post by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO Delhi), the changes are intended to reflect cultural, historical, and regional significance while honoring prominent national personalities.
Among the major changes, Jwalapuri Hospital has been renamed as Baba Ramdevji Maharaj Hospital. Britannia Chowk will now be known as Ashwini Chopra (Minna) Chowk, commemorating the noted media personality and journalist.
Several Delhi Metro stations have also received new names. Rohini West Metro Station has been renamed Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Hospital Metro Station, while Rohini East Metro Station will now be called Rohini Metro Station. Similarly, Dwarka Metro Station has been renamed Dwarka-Kakrola Metro Station.
In another significant announcement, the sports complex located at Begumpur, Rohini Sector-33, will now be known as Atal Khel Parisar. The government also stated that a statue of former Prime Minister Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee will be installed at the complex.
The renaming exercise is expected to impact public signage, transport maps, wayfinding systems, official records, and civic identity across these locations. Authorities are likely to coordinate with relevant departments and agencies, including the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), for implementation. Such renaming initiatives often influence local identity, navigation systems, and public memory, especially in rapidly expanding metropolitan regions like Delhi.
