The World Sustainable Development Summit 2026 (WSDS 2026), the flagship global sustainability forum organised by The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), will be held from 25 to 27 February 2026 at Taj Palace, New Delhi. The upcoming edition will mark the Silver Jubilee (25th edition) of the Summit, reaffirming its role as a key international platform for dialogue on sustainable development and climate action.

Theme: Transformations for a Sustainable Future
The overarching theme for World Sustainable Development Summit 2026 is “परिवर्तन | Transformations: Vision, Voices, and Values for Sustainable Development.” The theme reflects the growing global consensus that incremental change is insufficient to address interconnected challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, inequality, and slow progress on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to global assessments referenced in the Summit concept note, current national commitments are far from adequate to meet the Paris Agreement targets, and only a small fraction of SDG targets remain on track. Against this backdrop, WSDS 2026 aims to catalyse long-term, value-driven transformations through inclusive dialogue and evidence-based policymaking.
Three-Day Programme Structure
The Summit will unfold over three days with a combination of thematic tracks, high-level plenaries, and ministerial dialogues, bringing together policymakers, global experts, business leaders, researchers, and civil society representatives.
Day 1 – 25 February 2026 will feature multiple thematic tracks throughout the day, culminating in the Inaugural Session titled “Transformations through Vision, Voices and Values for Sustainable Development.”
Day 2 – 26 February 2026 will focus on plenary discussions addressing:
- Transformations through and for Nature
- Manufacturing and Trade: The Green Factor
- Harnessing Future Technologies for People, Planet, and Prosperity
- Multilateralism as a Force for Hope
The day will conclude with a by-invite-only “Dinner of Hope.”
Day 3 – 27 February 2026 will centre on climate finance and clean energy, followed by the Valedictory Session: “Reflections, Resurgence, and Resolve for Our Common Futures.”
A Global Platform from the Global South
Since its inception in 2001, WSDS has emerged as the only independently convened international summit on sustainable development based in the Global South. Over the years, it has convened 59 Heads of State and Government, 149 Ministers, 13 Nobel Laureates, and more than 41,000 delegates from across the world, positioning India as a key convener of global sustainability discourse.
The Summit also anchors TERI’s Act4Earth initiative, which focuses on advancing climate action and SDG implementation through platforms such as the COP Compass and the SDG Charter.
Significance for Policy, Planning, and Built Environment Professionals
For professionals in architecture, urban planning, infrastructure, energy, and environmental policy, WSDS 2026 offers a critical space to engage with emerging global frameworks, financing mechanisms, and technology pathways shaping sustainable development. The discussions are expected to influence international agendas linked to the G20, BRICS, and UN climate negotiations, reinforcing the Summit’s policy relevance.
As the world stands at a decisive moment for climate and development action, the Silver Jubilee edition of WSDS is positioned not only as a reflection on past progress but as a strategic platform to shape future transformations.
