A National Seminar on “Earthquake Safety in India” will be held on January 23–24, 2026, in Jaipur, marking 25 years of the 2001 Bhuj Earthquake, one of the most devastating seismic events in India’s history. The two-day seminar aims to reflect on lessons learned and chart a forward-looking agenda for strengthening earthquake resilience across the country.

The seminar is being organised by Malaviya National Institute of Technology Jaipur, in collaboration with Building Materials & Technology Promotion Council (BMTPC) and the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS). It will bring together structural engineers, architects, planners, disaster management professionals, policymakers, academicians, and students from across India.
The event will be hosted at the Rajasthan International Centre, located on Sansthan Path, LJN Marg, Jaipur.
Focus on Safer Built Environment
The seminar will focus on:
- Earthquake-resistant design and construction practices
- Implementation and updating of seismic codes and standards
- Retrofitting of existing buildings and infrastructure
- Post-disaster reconstruction experiences and innovations
- Capacity building, training, and public awareness
By commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Bhuj earthquake, the seminar seeks to reinforce the urgency of mainstreaming seismic safety in India’s rapidly urbanising landscape, especially in high-risk seismic zones.
Participation and Registration
The organisers expect wide participation from professionals, institutions, and students engaged in the built environment and disaster risk reduction sectors. Interested participants can register online through the QR code provided in the official seminar announcement.
