New Delhi: The Delhi Development Authority (DDA), in association with WWF-India’s Nature Connect initiative, is organising a ‘Dragonfly Walk’ at Asita East DDA Park, Laxmi Nagar, on September 20, 2026, offering participants an opportunity to explore the city’s wetland ecosystems and observe dragonflies and damselflies in their natural habitat.
The nature walk begins at 7:00 AM and is led by Nikhil John, who will introduce participants to the diverse world of dragonflies and damselflies, commonly referred to as odonates. The programme is designed to encourage greater awareness of urban biodiversity and the ecological importance of ponds and wetlands.
According to the event information shared by DDA and WWF India, participants will explore the biodiversity of Asita East DDA Park while learning how to observe these insects in their natural surroundings. The walk will also focus on their distinctive behaviours and their role in healthy aquatic ecosystems.
Dragonflies and damselflies are closely associated with freshwater habitats and can serve as indicators of ecological conditions. Their presence around ponds and wetlands highlights the importance of protecting and managing such habitats within rapidly urbanising areas like Delhi.
The event forms part of nature-oriented trails being promoted through Nature Connect, encouraging citizens to engage directly with urban ecological landscapes. Such initiatives can also help build public appreciation for biodiversity within Delhi’s parks, wetlands and restored natural spaces.
