As cities experience rising temperatures and increasing climate-related challenges, understanding urban heat patterns has become essential for developing climate-resilient and sustainable urban environments. Addressing this concern, the Madras Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI), in association with Auroville Consulting, is organising a webinar titled “Chennai Urban Heat Mapping and the 20 Hot-Spots” on 11 November 2026.

The webinar aims to explore urban heat mapping in Chennai and identify the city’s 20 major heat hotspots. The session will highlight how urban heat patterns affect different parts of the city and provide insights into the challenges and opportunities associated with climate-responsive urban planning.
The discussion will be led by Ms. Minni Sastry, Senior Advisor, Cities Unit, Climate Change Division, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Mr. Deena Hari Krishna A, Project Manager at Auroville Consulting, will moderate the session.
The webinar is expected to bring together urban practitioners, sustainability professionals, policymakers and individuals working in climate resilience, environmental planning and sustainable urban development. It will provide an opportunity to understand the importance of urban heat mapping as a tool for identifying vulnerable areas and supporting informed urban planning interventions.
The initiative is being organised under the Sustainable Chennai Forum of MCCI, reflecting the growing importance of addressing urban heat challenges and strengthening Chennai’s climate resilience.
