Delhi Govt Releases Record ₹13.36 Crore for Maintenance of 1,643 Parks Through RWAs and NGOs

New Delhi: The Delhi government has released a record ₹13.36 crore during the financial year 2025–26 for the maintenance of 1,643 parks across the national capital through Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) and Non-Government Organisations (NGOs). The allocation marks the highest financial assistance provided under the scheme since 2008–09.

According to official data from the Delhi Parks and Gardens Society, the financial support was distributed among 364 RWAs and NGOs for maintaining parks spread over 484.37 acres in Delhi. The initiative is aimed at strengthening community participation in maintaining urban green spaces and improving environmental quality in residential areas.

In comparison, around ₹7.5 crore was released during 2024–25 for the upkeep of 1,483 parks covering 435.57 acres through 329 RWAs and NGOs. The latest figures indicate a substantial rise in both financial assistance and the number of parks brought under the scheme.

The data further revealed that in 2025–26, around 35 additional associations and organisations were included under the scheme, while 160 more parks and nearly 48.8 additional acres received maintenance support compared to the previous financial year. Financial assistance increased by ₹6.31 crore, reflecting an almost 89.6 per cent rise over the previous year.

Officials noted that although the highest number of parks covered under the scheme was recorded in 2012–13 and again in 2022–23, when 1,877 parks were maintained, the current financial allocation remains the highest ever released under the programme.

The Delhi government had allocated ₹20 crore for the scheme in the 2025–26 budget to enhance financial assistance for RWAs, NGOs and societies while promoting greenery and better maintenance of parks and gardens throughout the city. The move is expected to encourage greater community involvement in urban landscape management and environmental sustainability initiatives.
