Held under the banner of “Operation Mission Monsoon,” the meeting focused on improving coordination among civic and infrastructure agencies, reviewing the progress of desilting operations, and identifying vulnerable locations prone to waterlogging. The review also examined the readiness of emergency response systems and the deployment of essential resources required during the monsoon.

Senior representatives from key departments and agencies, including the Public Works Department (PWD), Delhi Development Authority (DDA), Delhi Jal Board (DJB), Delhi Traffic Police, Flood and Irrigation Department, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), Indian Railways, and officials of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi participated in the discussions.

Addressing the officials, Mayor Pravesh Wahi stressed the importance of seamless inter-agency coordination to minimise inconvenience to residents during the rainy season. He directed departments to ensure that pumps, motors, dewatering equipment, emergency response machinery, and other critical resources remain fully operational and are deployed in advance wherever required.

The Mayor also instructed agencies to conduct comprehensive inspections and testing of machinery before the onset of heavy rainfall to avoid operational failures during emergencies. Emphasising a proactive approach, he asked officials to closely monitor identified waterlogging hotspots and prepare area-specific action plans based on lessons learned from previous monsoon seasons.

During the review, officials assessed the status of desilting works being undertaken across various parts of the city and discussed mechanisms for regular monitoring, information sharing, and prompt resolution of bottlenecks. Participating agencies assured full cooperation in implementing coordinated measures for effective monsoon management.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Mayor Monika Pant, Standing Committee Chairperson Satya Sharma, Leader of the House Jai Bhagwan Yadav, DEMS Committee Chairman Sandeep Kapoor, MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar, along with senior officials from MCD and other participating departments.

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi stated that coordinated planning, timely execution, and close inter-departmental collaboration remain central to its strategy for ensuring public safety and reducing monsoon-related disruptions across the national capital. (ANI)
