Indore: Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Shri Manohar Lal sanctioned more than 42,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban (PMAY-U) 2.0 in Madhya Pradesh. The announcement was made during a programme held at Sanwer in Indore district, where over 38,000 beneficiary families simultaneously performed Grih Pravesh ceremonies in their newly constructed pucca houses.

The event was attended by Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav, State Urban Development and Housing Minister Shri Kailash Vijayvargiya, Minister of State for Urban Administration and Development Smt. Pratima Bagri, and other senior officials. Under PMAY-U 2.0, sanction letters were distributed to eligible beneficiaries, with the Government providing a subsidy support of approximately ₹1,050 crore.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Manohar Lal congratulated the beneficiaries and emphasized that homeownership represents dignity, security, and hope for families. He reiterated the Government’s commitment to achieving the vision of “Housing for All” under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.
Madhya Pradesh continues to rank among the leading states in the implementation of PMAY-U. According to official figures, more than 10.39 lakh houses have been sanctioned under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0, while over 9.08 lakh houses have already been completed. The latest initiative is expected to benefit more than 80,000 families through housing sanctions and occupancy of newly completed homes.
Beyond providing secure shelter, PMAY-U aims to improve access to basic services, enhance livelihood opportunities, and promote social inclusion. A key feature of the scheme is its focus on women’s empowerment, with houses generally registered in the name of a woman family member or jointly with the spouse.
The Ministry noted that PMAY-U 2.0 seeks to expand affordable housing coverage for urban households, supporting an additional one crore EWS, LIG, and MIG families across the country. Eligible beneficiaries can receive financial assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh for constructing, purchasing, or renting a pucca house in urban areas.
The programme underscores the continuing role of housing as a critical component of urban development policy, contributing not only to improved living conditions but also to inclusive and sustainable urban growth.
