New Delhi: The Ministry of Panchayati Raj honoured 42 outstanding Panchayats from across India at the National Panchayat Awards 2025 ceremony held in New Delhi on June 3. The awards recognize exemplary contributions by Panchayati Raj Institutions in promoting inclusive, participatory, and sustainable rural development aligned with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The awards were presented by Union Minister for Panchayati Raj and Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan Singh (Lalan Singh), in the presence of Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Prof. S. P. Singh Baghel, senior officials, and elected representatives from various states and Union Territories. During the event, the Ministry also released an e-book showcasing the best practices of award-winning Panchayats and a compendium documenting successful governance models from states and UTs.
Addressing the gathering, the Union Minister emphasized the importance of empowered villages in achieving India’s development goals and highlighted that 22 of the 42 award-winning Panchayats are led by women, underscoring the growing role of women in grassroots governance. He also highlighted initiatives such as the Panchayat Advancement Index (PAI) 2.0, e-GramSwaraj, and the AI-enabled SabhaSaar platform aimed at strengthening transparent and citizen-centric governance.
The National Panchayat Awards 2025 were conferred under two categories: the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (34 Gram Panchayats) and the Nanaji Deshmukh Sarvottam Panchayat Satat Vikas Puraskar (8 Panchayats). Awardees received financial incentives ranging from ₹50 lakh to ₹5 crore for further developmental activities.
