New Delhi: In a major relief for morning walkers, joggers, and fitness enthusiasts, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has announced that no entry fee will be charged at its parks and heritage sites till 10 AM. The decision was announced by Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena and is expected to benefit thousands of daily visitors across the capital.
The initiative covers several prominent green and recreational spaces managed by DDA, including Mehrauli Archaeological Park, Baansera, Asita, Kranti Udhyan, Vatika, Atal Sadhbhavana Park, Vasudev Ghat, Vaishnavi Park, Amrut Biodiversity Park, Lal Hardayal Park in Jasola, and Smriti Van in Narela.
According to officials, the move aligns with the Prime Minister’s vision of promoting the Fit India Movement and encouraging citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles through easier access to public green spaces.
The decision comes months after DDA had introduced entry fees at select public parks, including the 36-acre Sector 16D Park in Dwarka and Baansera. The earlier move had faced criticism from regular morning walkers and local residents who demanded free access during early hours.
DDA currently manages more than 16,000 acres of green assets in Delhi, including over 700 parks, biodiversity zones, city forests, regional parks, and neighbourhood gardens. The latest announcement is likely to increase public participation in outdoor recreational activities and improve accessibility to urban open spaces.
