The much-anticipated Ganga Expressway, a major infrastructure project aimed at enhancing connectivity across Uttar Pradesh, is set to be inaugurated on April 29, 2026, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Spanning 594 kilometers, the expressway will link Meerut to Prayagraj, significantly reducing travel time and boosting regional mobility.

Developed by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority, the six-lane (expandable to eight lanes) corridor has been constructed at an estimated cost of ₹36,230 crore. Once operational, it will serve as a critical economic artery, connecting multiple districts and rural areas across the state.
Ahead of its opening, key details regarding toll charges and pass systems have emerged. The expressway will operate under a closed tolling system, featuring two main toll plazas and 19 ramp plazas at entry and exit points. While official FASTag rates are yet to be formally घोषित, estimates suggest that cars traveling the full stretch may be charged approximately ₹2.55 per kilometer, bringing the total toll to around ₹1,515.
A significant point of clarification for commuters is the applicability of annual passes. The ₹3,075 annual FASTag pass issued by the National Highways Authority of India will not be valid on the Ganga Expressway, as it applies only to national highways and expressways under central jurisdiction.
Instead, UPEIDA has introduced its own pass system tailored for frequent users. Two types of passes will be available: a return journey pass, allowing discounted toll rates for same-day round trips (capped at 1.6 times a one-way fare), and a monthly pass designed for commuters making over 20 trips per month, offering additional concessions.
With its inauguration, the Ganga Expressway is expected to transform travel dynamics in Uttar Pradesh, offering faster, more efficient connectivity while supporting economic growth and regional development.
