This week-long programme aims to bring together global experts and mid-to-senior-level professionals to explore multidisciplinary approaches to designing inclusive, climate-resilient, and safe urban environments. The initiative is part of the broader My Liveable City platform, which focuses on knowledge exchange through publications, conferences, and academic programmes across India, the Netherlands, and the USA.

The course will integrate perspectives from architecture, urban planning, sociology, governance, ecology, mobility, and engineering, offering participants a holistic understanding of urban development challenges. The curriculum is structured around lectures, workshops, and site visits to notable projects in and around Rotterdam.

A key focus of the programme is to address pressing urban questions such as community participation in city-making, equity and justice in neighbourhood planning, safety of women and vulnerable groups, and the role of housing design in mitigating climate change impacts. It also explores how public spaces, mobility systems, heritage, and landscape ecology can contribute to building safer and more liveable communities.

The faculty comprises an international cohort of experts from countries including the Netherlands, India, Turkey, Venezuela, Belgium, the USA, and the Philippines, ensuring a diverse and global learning environment. The programme is specifically designed for professionals from government bodies, private sector firms, academia, and consultancy practices who are actively engaged in shaping urban ecosystems.

Participation is limited to 35 candidates, with admissions offered on a first-come, first-served basis, ensuring an intensive and interactive learning experience. The course fee is set at €1500 or INR 1,60,000 (plus taxes), covering academic sessions, workshops, and site visits, while participants are required to arrange their own travel and accommodation.

As outlined in the terms and conditions on page 2, participants will receive a certificate upon successful completion of the programme. Additionally, international attendees will be provided with a letter of acceptance to facilitate Schengen visa applications, making the programme accessible to a global audience.

With cities worldwide facing increasing challenges related to climate change, social equity, and urban safety, this programme positions itself as a timely initiative to equip professionals with actionable knowledge and collaborative strategies. By fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and practical learning, the MLC-IHS Academy aims to contribute to the development of future-ready, inclusive, and resilient urban communities.
