NCB Collaborates with TraceXero to Develop Carbon Capture Technologies for Cement Sector

In a significant step toward decarbonising the construction materials industry, the National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCB) has entered into a strategic collaboration with TraceXero Technologies Private Limited, an Indian start-up specialising in industrial decarbonisation and carbon capture solutions. The partnership aims to support the development, technical validation, and potential commercialisation of advanced Carbon Capture and Utilisation (CCU) technologies tailored for the cement and construction materials sector.

NCB, an apex research and development organisation functioning under the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has been actively working to promote technological innovation in the cement industry. Through its research laboratories, pilot facilities, and technical expertise, the organisation provides scientific and technical support to industry stakeholders, academic institutions, and emerging technology developers working on sustainable solutions for the sector.

The cement industry is considered one of the most carbon-intensive sectors globally, contributing nearly 7 percent of global carbon dioxide emissions due to process-related emissions during cement production. Addressing these emissions has become critical for achieving long-term climate targets and transitioning the industry toward Net Zero pathways. Carbon Capture and Utilisation is increasingly being recognised as a key technological intervention capable of significantly reducing emissions while maintaining industrial productivity.

TraceXero Technologies is developing an innovative process that captures carbon dioxide using a proprietary solvent-based technology and converts the captured CO₂ into graphitic carbon and eventually graphene. This approach has the potential to transform industrial emissions into valuable advanced materials, thereby turning carbon waste into a commercially useful resource for future applications.

The collaboration agreement was formally signed on 10 March 2026 at the NCB campus in Ballabgarh. The agreement was signed by Dr. S. K. Chaturvedi, Joint Director and Secretary of NCB, and Shri Reetam Chaudhury, Co-founder of TraceXero Technologies, in the presence of NCB Director General Dr. L. P. Singh and senior officials from various centres and service groups of the organisation.

Through this partnership, NCB aims to strengthen its engagement with emerging technology start-ups and innovators working on next-generation solutions for sustainable construction materials. The initiative is expected to support the cement industry in addressing environmental challenges while maintaining competitiveness and supporting India’s broader infrastructure development goals.
