New Delhi | The Delhi government has issued a tender worth ₹54.84 lakh to conduct a geotechnical survey for the proposed extension of the Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line between the upcoming Common Central Secretariat and Indraprastha metro stations. The survey is a crucial preliminary step before civil construction begins on the project being implemented by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).
According to officials, the geotechnical investigation will analyze soil composition, rock layers, and groundwater conditions along the proposed corridor that passes through the high-security Lutyens’ Delhi area. These assessments are essential before deploying tunnel boring machines (TBMs) for underground metro construction. The tender is scheduled to open on March 9, and the selected agency will be required to complete the study within 120 days of award.
The 9.91-km RK Ashram Marg–Indraprastha corridor was approved by the Union government in December and later by the Delhi government, with an estimated project cost of ₹9,570.4 crore, of which the Delhi government will contribute ₹2,337.24 crore. The extension aims to strengthen metro connectivity across central Delhi, reduce congestion at Rajiv Chowk interchange, and provide a direct metro link beneath the Central Vista redevelopment zone.
Stations planned along this corridor include RK Ashram Marg, Shivaji Stadium, Central Secretariat, Kartavya Bhawan, India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Baroda House, Bharat Mandapam, and Indraprastha. Once completed, the line will form part of a larger network running from Botanical Garden to Inderlok, eventually becoming the longest corridor in the Delhi Metro system at around 88.4 km with 21 interchange stations. The entire corridor is planned to operate as a fully driverless metro line, further strengthening Delhi’s urban transit infrastructure.
