The Uttar Pradesh government has cleared a long-awaited proposal to renovate the Delhi–Saharanpur Yamunotri Road, a crucial corridor linking Ghaziabad with major northern regions. The Public Works Department (PWD) confirmed that the 7-kilometre stretch passing through Loni will undergo a complete overhaul, with work scheduled to begin in January.

A Long-Pending Demand Finally Addressed
Local residents have consistently raised concerns over the deteriorated condition of the road, riddled with potholes and uneven surfaces. Frequent accidents—especially involving two-wheeler riders—along with increased air pollution due to vehicle congestion have highlighted the urgent need for intervention. The approved renovation, with an estimated budget of ₹32 crore, marks a significant response to years of public demand.
Tender Process Underway, Work to Start January
PWD Executive Engineer Rajaram confirmed that the tendering process has already begun.
“The Delhi–Saharanpur Yamunotri Road renovation has been approved, and we are in the process of finalising the tender. Work is expected to begin in January,” he said.(DNA INDIA)
The project will include resurfacing, pothole removal, and strengthening of the entire stretch to ensure long-term durability.
Cemented Sections to Prevent Waterlogging
Several zones along the route are prone to chronic waterlogging—one of the primary causes of road damage. To counter this, the PWD will construct cemented road segments and upgrade drainage systems to prevent water accumulation. These improvements are expected to enhance commute safety and reduce accident risks.
Residents Express Relief
Local commuters have welcomed the government’s decision.
“For years, travelling on this road has been risky and exhausting. We hope the renovation gives us a safer and smoother journey,” said a Loni resident.
