Chennai: The Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC), in its recent council meeting, has approved the Marina Heritage Corridor Project, paving the way for key urban and heritage-focused developments along the city’s iconic stretch from Labour Statue to Lighthouse (2.9 km).

Under the project, the following facilities will be developed:
- A 2.3 km-long, 4-meter-wide synthetic bicycle track
- Nine bus stops on both sides of Kamaraj Road
- Nine viewing platforms to highlight heritage buildings
- Streetlights and bollard lights along the cycling path
- Three police booths for safety and monitoring
The initiative, first announced in the CMDA’s 2024–25 budget session, received an official No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Corporation, with further development works to be executed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA).
According to the CMDA’s field survey, project sites will extend across both sides of Kamarajar Salai. Plans include gardening, landscaped areas, and a children’s playground on the eastern stretch near the road. Additionally, the gardening zone will host nine viewing platforms overlooking heritage structures, while the cycle path with bollard lighting will run parallel for public use.
The GCC has also clarified that its zonal offices will handle future NOC approvals and entry permissions for related projects based on recommendations from respective departments.
