Panaji: Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has marked the beginning of construction work on the proposed twin towers atop the new Zuari Bridge in Goa. Gadkari participated in a traditional ceremony to formally initiate the project while travelling to inaugurate the Porvorim elevated corridor.
Describing the project as both a dream for Goa and a personal ambition, Gadkari said the twin towers are expected to go beyond their engineering function and emerge as a major tourism attraction for the state.
A key feature of the development will be a viewing gallery and observatory, designed to showcase Goa’s art and culture through advanced technology. Gadkari said India should develop landmark attractions comparable with internationally recognised structures such as the Eiffel Tower.
He also suggested that the Goa government consider introducing a light-and-sound show on the Zuari Bridge, which could be viewed by visitors from boats operating on the water below. According to Gadkari, the twin towers have the potential to become an international tourist attraction.
Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said the project would be unique in India because of its scale and integration with a major bridge structure. The proposed towers will rise approximately 120 metres above the bridge, making them prominent elements of the Zuari Bridge landscape.
The towers are also planned to feature capsule lifts, allowing visitors to reach the observatory in around three minutes. The combination of elevated infrastructure, visitor facilities and technology is expected to give the bridge an additional tourism-oriented identity.
The project represents an effort to integrate infrastructure development with tourism, cultural presentation and visitor experiences, potentially turning the Zuari Bridge into more than a transportation link.
