The Namo Bharat Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor between Delhi and Meerut is set to become fully operational soon, significantly reducing travel time and easing road congestion across the region.

Currently, a 55-km stretch from New Ashok Nagar (Delhi border) to Meerut South (Meerut border) is functional, serving nearly 60,000 daily passengers. The remaining 27 km — New Ashok Nagar to Sarai Kale Khan in Delhi and Meerut South to Modipuram in Uttar Pradesh — is expected to be inaugurated shortly, following successful trial runs in June.
Once the entire 82-km corridor opens, the system will operate at speeds of up to 160 kmph, cutting the Delhi–Meerut journey to under one hour. Authorities estimate it will help take one lakh cars off the road, reducing congestion and pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR).
Developed at a cost of over ₹30,000 crore, the Delhi–Meerut RRTS is the first of several high-speed transit corridors planned for the NCR. Work is also advancing on the Delhi–Alwar RRTS corridor, with an upcoming section between Sarai Kale Khan and Shahjahanpur–Neemrana–Behror (SNB), via Gurugram, awaiting Cabinet approval. This 106-km stretch is expected to further boost regional connectivity.
The project is a key step in transforming urban mobility in NCR, providing faster, cleaner, and more reliable public transport options.
