Gurugram Metro to Offset Tree Loss with 18,000 Saplings in Kadarpur

HaryanaThe Haryana Forest Development Corporation (HFDC) has issued a tender for planting 18,000 trees in Kadarpur, compensating for the 1,801 trees being felled to make way for the first phase of the Gurugram Metro project. The plantation drive will be carried out on 18 hectares of land allocated by the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram.

The Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has already initiated tree felling along the metro alignment in Sector 9 and the stretch between Kanhai T-Point and Subhash Chowk. According to officials, construction activity is expected to accelerate in the coming weeks.

A GMRL representative confirmed that half of the tender amount has already been transferred for the planting and upkeep of the saplings. “The corporation is committed to ensuring long-term survival of these trees,” the official added.

Under the tender conditions, the plantation will include 16 native species such as Neem, Peepal, Bargad, Jamun, Amaltas, Tamarind, and Mulberry. The selected contractor will be responsible for planting and maintaining the saplings for five years, with a detailed plan for watering, fertilization, insecticide application, pruning, and plant protection.

This large-scale afforestation initiative is aimed at balancing urban infrastructure expansion with ecological sustainability as Gurugram prepares for its long-awaited metro corridor from Millennium City Centre to Sector 9.
