About the Conclave

The built environment is a major contributor to global emissions and resource consumption, while also being highly vulnerable to climate stresses. Recognising this dual challenge, the 10th GRIHA Regional Conclave aims to create a collaborative platform to explore innovative, inclusive, and region-specific solutions for climate-resilient development.

The conclave will convene policymakers, architects, engineers, urban practitioners, industry leaders, product manufacturers, researchers, and sustainability professionals to discuss emerging approaches that integrate innovation with resilience. The focus will be on rethinking design processes, construction practices, and the operation of built spaces to ensure adaptability, sustainability, and long-term environmental stewardship.

Sustainable Construction Practices

  • Venue: Laurie Baker Centre (LBC) for Habitat Studies, Vilappilsala Campus, Thiruvananthapuram

As a prelude to the conclave, GRIHA Council is organising a one-day hands-on workshop focused on sustainable and climate-responsive construction techniques. Hosted at the Laurie Baker Centre, the workshop will provide participants with live demonstrations and practical exposure to bamboo-based and low-energy construction methods, including wattle-and-daub walls, bamboo beams, and bamboo slab fabrication.

The workshop is designed for professionals, practitioners, and students seeking practical insights into affordable, resource-efficient, and context-sensitive construction practices inspired by vernacular wisdom and sustainable design principles.
