Indore: Indore’s urban mobility network received a major boost with the inauguration of Indore Metro Priority Corridor–2, connecting Super Corridor-3 to Malviya Nagar Chauraha. The 11-km corridor with 11 stations was inaugurated by Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav. Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu was also present.
Developed at an estimated cost of ₹2,850 crore, the newly inaugurated Phase-I (Reach-II) marks a significant expansion of the city’s metro infrastructure. With this corridor becoming operational, the Indore Metro network now comprises 16 operational stations spanning approximately 17 km, with the cumulative project cost reaching around ₹4,370 crore.
Faster and Safer Urban Connectivity
Speaking at the inauguration, Manohar Lal said the Metro would provide citizens with a faster, safer, more comfortable and reliable mode of public transport, while strengthening connectivity between residential areas, commercial centres and employment hubs.
The Union Minister highlighted the broader role of metro rail in urban development, stating that it is not merely a transportation project but an important instrument for economic growth, urban transformation and social inclusion.
Greater reliance on public transport is also expected to contribute to reducing traffic congestion, fuel consumption and emissions, supporting more sustainable urban mobility.
11 Stations Strengthen Indore’s Metro Network
The newly inaugurated corridor stretches for approximately 11 km and includes 11 stations, beginning at Super Corridor-3 and terminating at Malviya Nagar Chauraha. The expansion is expected to improve public transport connectivity across important parts of the city and provide an alternative to road-based transportation.
The inauguration also reflects the continuing expansion of metro infrastructure in Madhya Pradesh, with the project involving the Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, engineers, officials, workers and other stakeholders.
Manohar Lal congratulated the Government of Madhya Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited, officials, engineers, workers and all stakeholders associated with the project.
