The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) will organize the National Inception Workshop for the implementation of the Government of India (GoI)–Global Environment Facility (GEF)–United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Small Grants Programme Operational Phase 8 (SGP-OP8) on July 31, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 5:30 PM (IST).
The workshop marks the formal launch of the eighth operational phase of the Small Grants Programme (SGP), a global initiative that supports community-led projects focused on biodiversity conservation, climate resilience, sustainable livelihoods, and environmental protection. The programme is being implemented in India under the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Government of India, with support from GEF and UNDP.
According to TERI, the virtual workshop will bring together representatives from government agencies, development partners, civil society organizations, community institutions, academia, and technical experts. Participants will discuss the programme’s strategic priorities, thematic focus areas, implementation framework, and grant opportunities available under SGP-OP8.
The Small Grants Programme has been instrumental in empowering local communities to undertake innovative environmental initiatives that address climate change, conserve ecosystems, and strengthen sustainable development at the grassroots level. The Operational Phase 8 is expected to further expand support for community-driven solutions aligned with India’s environmental and climate commitments.
The inception workshop will also provide an opportunity for stakeholders to understand the programme’s operational modalities, partnership mechanisms, and funding process while encouraging collaboration among organizations working in environmental conservation and sustainable development.
