The Government of India is set to significantly strengthen northern Telangana’s transport infrastructure through the expansion of NH-63 and NH-563, a move expected to improve regional connectivity, accelerate economic growth, and enhance tourism across the state. The projects, approved by the Union Cabinet, involve a combined investment of ₹7,597.16 crore and cover 190.76 kilometres of highway development.
The infrastructure initiative includes the four-laning of the Armoor–Jagtial–Mancherial section of NH-63, which will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM), and the Jagtial–Karimnagar section of NH-563, which will be developed on a Build-Operate-Transfer (Toll) basis. These upgrades are designed to reduce congestion, improve travel efficiency, and support the growing transportation needs of northern Telangana.
Improved Access to Religious and Heritage Destinations
The upgraded highway network will provide faster and safer connectivity to several of Telangana’s major pilgrimage and heritage destinations, including Vemulawada Temple, Kondagattu Anjaneya Swamy Temple, Dharmapuri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Temple, Kaleshwaram Temple, and the historic Nagunur Fort.
The improved accessibility is expected to encourage multi-destination religious tourism while benefiting local businesses, hospitality services, transport operators, and artisans through increased visitor footfall.
Stronger Support for Agriculture and Industry
Northern Telangana is an important centre for agriculture, food processing, fisheries, and manufacturing. The upgraded corridors will improve connectivity to Mega Food Parks in Nizamabad and Siddipet, as well as fisheries and seafood clusters and Special Economic Zones in Siddipet and Warangal.
Farmers are expected to benefit from quicker access to agricultural markets, warehouses, cold storage facilities, and processing centres, reducing transportation costs and minimizing post-harvest losses. Businesses will also gain from faster movement of raw materials and finished products, strengthening regional supply chains under the PM Gati Shakti initiative.
Faster Regional Connectivity
The expanded highways will strengthen links with NH-44, India’s longest north-south highway corridor, while also connecting with NH-363 and NH-163G. These improvements will support important freight and passenger routes between Nagpur, Hyderabad, and Vijayawada.
According to the government, travel time between Armoor and Mancherial is expected to reduce by approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, while the Jagtial–Karimnagar journey could become nearly 45 minutes shorter after project completion.
Addressing Growing Traffic Demand
The current highway stretches pass through densely populated towns such as Korutla, Jagtial, Dharmapuri, Lakshettipet, Mancherial, Potharam, Gangadhara, and Karimnagar, where increasing traffic volumes frequently result in congestion and travel delays.
The four-laning projects aim to create a higher-capacity transport corridor capable of supporting rising economic activity, improving freight efficiency, and ensuring safer travel across northern Telangana.
