The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is set to overhaul waste management operations across key parts of the capital, seeking approval for contracts worth ₹2,939 crore to appoint new agencies for the South, Central, and West zones. The move comes amid persistent sanitation challenges in these regions following the expiry of earlier long-term agreements. Areas such as Maharani Bagh, Greater Kailash, Defence Colony, Janakpuri, and Rajouri Garden have reportedly faced irregular waste collection and infrastructure shortages.

According to officials, the new contracts—spanning seven years—aim to streamline operations by assigning a single agency responsibility for door-to-door garbage collection, green waste handling, and drain silt removal. The agencies will also establish 24×7 helplines and develop mobile applications to address citizen complaints efficiently. Additionally, CCTV cameras with infrared technology will be installed at waste transfer stations to ensure monitoring and accountability.

The initiative is expected to eliminate jurisdictional overlaps and improve service delivery, especially in Central Delhi, where resource shortages and temporary arrangements have led to garbage accumulation and public complaints. Once approved by the Standing Committee, work orders will be issued immediately, marking a significant step toward strengthening urban sanitation infrastructure in Delhi.
