The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has received an overwhelming response from highway developers for the construction of the Kaliabor–Numaligarh section of NH-715 Assam. A total of 18 bids have been submitted for the project, which is estimated to cost ₹6,956 crore and is expected to be awarded during the current financial year.

The project involves the development of an 85.6 km stretch of NH-715, which passes through the ecologically sensitive Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve. To ensure both infrastructure development and environmental protection, the highway will be upgraded from a two-lane road to a four-lane corridor under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.
A key highlight of the project is the construction of a 34.5 km long Kaziranga Elevated Corridor, designed to allow uninterrupted wildlife movement. The corridor will be built in three segments of 18.3 km, 11.2 km, and 5 km, facilitating safe passage of animals between Kaziranga National Park and the Karbi Anglong hills while maintaining smooth traffic flow.
The infrastructure package also includes two greenfield bypasses totaling 21 km at Jakhlabandha and Bokakhat, along with one major bridge, 20 minor bridges, seven flyovers, 84 culverts, a railway overbridge, five vehicular underpasses, 12 light vehicular underpasses, 21 bus shelters, and 16 km of service roads.
To ensure ecological sensitivity, NHAI has consulted the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), and the Assam Forest Department, while also securing approval from the National Board for Wildlife (NBWL). The project was approved by the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA), and its Bhumi Pujan was performed by the Prime Minister in January 2026.
Once completed, the highway upgrade is expected to boost regional connectivity, support tourism to Kaziranga National Park, and enhance trade and industrial development across Assam, contributing to broader economic growth in the region.
