Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has announced the expansion of its Golden Line with a 3.9-kilometre elevated extension connecting Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj, aimed at addressing the growing travel demand in South Delhi and improving connectivity along the Yamuna riverfront corridor.
The proposed elevated corridor is part of Delhi Metro Phase V, a key stage in the capital’s long-term mass transit expansion strategy. Once operational, the extension is expected to significantly reduce travel time, decongest arterial roads, and enhance last-mile access for residential and institutional areas located along the Yamuna floodplain.

Improving Urban Mobility & Reducing Road Congestion
According to DMRC, the new corridor will not only make daily commuting faster and more reliable but also help reduce dependence on private vehicles, thereby easing traffic congestion and lowering vehicular emissions in the region. The project aligns with national priorities of sustainable urban transport and multimodal integration.
The expansion is being implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) and supports the Government of India’s broader vision of ease of mobility, public transport-led development, and climate-resilient urban infrastructure.

Urban planners note that the Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj corridor is strategically significant as it:
