The Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, on 11 January 2026, inaugurated the remaining stretch of Phase 2 of the Ahmedabad Metro, marking a significant milestone in Gujarat’s urban transport infrastructure. The newly opened corridor connects Sector 10A to Mahatma Mandir, enhancing seamless metro connectivity between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar.

Sharing glimpses of the inauguration on social media, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to strengthening urban infrastructure and improving quality of life. He stated that the completion of this phase would substantially boost the “Ease of Living” for residents of the twin cities by offering faster, cleaner, and more reliable public transport.
The Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 project has been envisioned to reduce road congestion, lower vehicular emissions, and support sustainable urban growth in the rapidly expanding metropolitan region. The Sector 10A–Mahatma Mandir stretch is particularly significant as it improves access to major administrative, commercial, and institutional hubs in Gandhinagar.
With this inauguration, the Ahmedabad Metro network moves closer to its long-term goal of providing an efficient mass rapid transit system that supports economic activity while promoting environmentally responsible mobility.
Urban planners and transport experts note that metro expansions such as this play a critical role in shaping compact, transit-oriented development, reducing dependence on private vehicles, and improving overall urban resilience.
