The National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), under the River Cities Alliance (RCA) and the Namami Gange Mission, has announced Season 6 of its national-level Student Thesis Competition titled “Re-Imagining Urban Rivers.” The initiative invites Bachelor’s and Master’s students from any discipline across India to submit innovative and implementable thesis ideas focused on water and river management in urban contexts.

Organized by NIUA’s Water and Environment Vertical, the competition aims to encourage young researchers to contribute toward sustainable and resilient urban river systems. Participants will have the opportunity to present their research on a national platform, collaborate with leading sector experts, and get their work published in reputed journals.
Winners stand a chance to receive up to INR 50,000 in research support. The competition is open to all disciplines, promoting interdisciplinary thinking around river rejuvenation and water-sensitive urban design.
The submission deadline for project proposals is 21st November 2025.
