Pune – Marking a major milestone in the city’s transport infrastructure, the Puneri Metro carried out its first trial run on the Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar corridor on the auspicious occasion of Ganesh Chaturthi.

The maiden trial was conducted between Maan Depot and Balewadi Stadium Station (Station No. 10), with engineers and technical experts closely monitoring train movement, signaling systems, and safety protocols. This marks the first time a metro train has entered the main alignment of the route, signaling steady progress in the much-awaited project.
The 23-km elevated Line III will play a crucial role in easing traffic congestion, especially for thousands of IT professionals commuting daily to Hinjewadi’s tech parks. Once operational, the line will seamlessly connect residential, commercial, and educational hubs, offering faster, eco-friendly travel options for Pune’s growing population.
Officials confirmed that more trial runs will be conducted in phases before the line becomes fully operational. The successful debut has not only accelerated project momentum but also symbolized the festive spirit blending with Pune’s modern urban aspirations.
The Hinjewadi–Shivajinagar Metro Line is being developed under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The project has been awarded to a consortium of TRIL Urban Transport Private Limited (Tata Group) and Siemens Project Ventures GmbH, with operations managed by Pune IT City Metro Rail Limited (PITCMRL) on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate & Transfer (DBFOT) basis for a 35-year concession period, including construction.
