Gurugram | The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) is planning a major infrastructure revamp by introducing a Dwarka Expressway-style elevated road on the Southern Peripheral Road (SPR). The proposed 5.5 km signal-free corridor will connect Vatika Chowk to NH-8, offering a seamless link between Delhi and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

A detailed project report (DPR) for the elevated corridor is currently being finalized by a consultant appointed earlier this year. GMDA officials have confirmed that the design will incorporate future mobility needs and integrate upcoming infrastructure along the SPR.
Designed as a six-lane, signal-free elevated carriageway, the corridor will include multiple entry and exit ramps. It will connect major highways including the Dwarka Expressway, NH-8, and NH-248A (Sohna Highway) through the existing cloverleaf interchange at Vatika Chowk.
This new development will facilitate uninterrupted vehicular movement from Shiv Murti in Delhi to NH-248A, significantly reducing congestion and commute time for travelers heading toward or coming from Sohna and beyond.
Although conceptualized in 2019, the redevelopment of this stretch has seen delays. An earlier plan in 2022 proposed eight flyovers and road widening, but it was shelved due to concerns about traffic volume. The revised elevated corridor proposal was fast-tracked following approvals from former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and later, in July 2024, by current CM Nayab Singh Saini.
The GMDA board has sanctioned a budget of ₹750 crore, including ₹620 crore for construction and ₹130 crore for land acquisition.
