According to DTCP officials, these gates were installed without obtaining mandatory permissions from the district administration. Residents had filed numerous complaints, citing issues such as restricted access for vehicles and emergency services like ambulances due to the locked or unattended gates.
Amit Madholia, District Town Planner (Enforcement), stated, “No approval had been taken for these gates. Our team demolished 10 more on Monday and previously 51 were already removed. We urge all Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) to dismantle such unauthorized gates and seek approval before any future installations.”
In a proactive step, the South City 1 RWA voluntarily removed 15 unapproved gates. DTCP clarified that only boom barriers may be allowed for security, and even those require specific clearance from a district committee led by the Deputy Commissioner, especially on wider internal roads of 18 to 24 metres.
Officials emphasized that permanent gates are not permissible under town planning rules. The district task force has also instructed strict action against all such illegal installations across private colonies.
