The Department of Civil Engineering at Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology (TIET), Patiala, is set to organise GRACE 2026 – Green Research in Alternative Binders and Chemical Admixtures for Sustainable Concrete Engineering on 27–28 November 2026 at TIET, Patiala. The workshop will serve as the concluding programme in the Pre-Conference Workshop Session Series leading up to the 17th International Congress on the Chemistry of Cement (ICCC-2027).

The two-day workshop is designed to facilitate knowledge dissemination and provide participants with exposure to emerging developments aligned with the broader scientific themes of ICCC-2027. Following workshops hosted by IIT Hyderabad, IIT Delhi/NCCBM and NITK Surathkal, GRACE 2026 at TIET will bring together experts from academia, research organisations and industry to discuss emerging challenges and opportunities in sustainable concrete engineering.
The workshop will focus on alternative binders, chemical admixtures, emerging technologies, and performance and durability. Discussions will address recent developments and practical applications aimed at improving the performance, durability and sustainability of concrete.
A notable feature of GRACE 2026 will be the participation of a distinguished group of resource persons from leading academic and research institutions. Confirmed speakers include Dr L. P. Singh, Director General, NCCBM; Prof. Shashank Bishnoi, IIT Delhi; Prof. Manu Santhanam, IIT Madras; Prof. K.V.L. Subramaniam, IIT Hyderabad; Prof. Rafat Siddique and Prof. Shweta Goyal from TIET Patiala; Prof. Bibhuti Bhusan Das, NITK Surathkal; Prof. Piyush Chaunsali, IIT Madras; Prof. Anjaneya Dixit, IIT Roorkee; and Prof. K. Siva Teja Chopperla, IIT Gandhinagar, among others.
The workshop is also inviting students and researchers to present their work through poster presentations. The accompanying programme material announces Best Poster Awards to recognise outstanding research contributions. Participants interested in poster presentation are required to complete the applicable registration payment, fill out the GRACE 2026 Registration Form and indicate their interest in poster presentation. The poster call covers research related to sustainable cement and concrete engineering.
According to the workshop brochure, registration fees are ₹1,500 + 18% GST for students, ₹3,000 + 18% GST for faculty and academicians, and ₹6,000 + 18% GST for industry participants. After completing the payment, participants are required to fill out the GRACE 2026 Registration Form. The last date for registration is 10 November 2026.
The workshop is being organised under the leadership of Dr. Padmakumar Nair, Vice Chancellor, TIET, as Chief Patron; Dr. Ajay Batish, Pro-Vice Chancellor, TIET, as Patron; and Dr. Shweta Goyal, Professor and Head, Department of Civil Engineering, TIET, as Convenor. Dr. Danie Roy A. B. and Dr. Shashank Chandra are serving as Organizing Secretaries.
The Department of Civil Engineering at TIET, established in 1956, has a long-standing academic and research profile spanning structural engineering, sustainable materials, transportation, geotechnical engineering and water resources engineering. The department states that its modern research facilities, interdisciplinary collaborations and industry-academia interaction are aimed at advancing sustainable solutions for contemporary infrastructure challenges.
GRACE 2026 is expected to provide a platform for researchers, academics, students and industry professionals to exchange knowledge on innovative materials and technologies that can contribute to more sustainable and durable concrete infrastructure, while building momentum toward ICCC-2027, scheduled to be held in New Delhi in October 2027.
