The project, titled “Commercialization of the Eco-friendly Ultra Low Carbon Footprint Wall Claddings”, involves the establishment of a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility for geopolymer-based tiles developed using indigenous technology. This initiative aligns with the Government of India’s broader vision of promoting sustainable industrial growth, circular economy practices, and climate-resilient infrastructure.

Carbon Craft is a design and material innovation startup focused on developing ultra-low carbon building materials using construction and demolition waste. The company’s proprietary technology enables permanent sequestration of industrial by-products into value-added materials such as tiles, aggregates, and bricks. The proposed geopolymer wall claddings are high-performance, sustainable tiles manufactured using recycled quartz waste and multi-grade quartz sand through specialized blending and processing techniques. Notably, the technology eliminates the need for energy-intensive kiln firing, significantly reducing embodied carbon in architectural finishes.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, emphasized that transitioning to sustainable construction materials is essential for achieving India’s climate goals and net-zero ambitions. He noted that supporting innovative startups like Carbon Craft enables commercialization of indigenous green technologies, promotes waste valorization, and strengthens India’s green manufacturing ecosystem.

The founders of Carbon Craft expressed gratitude for TDB’s support, stating that the assistance will accelerate manufacturing scale-up and expand market access for sustainable building materials. The initiative is also expected to contribute to import substitution in specialized architectural cladding materials while reducing industrial waste and promoting environmentally responsible construction practices nationwide.

With growing emphasis on circular economy principles and Aatmanirbhar Bharat, this collaboration marks an important milestone in advancing low-carbon construction solutions in India’s architecture and infrastructure sectors.
