Bengaluru: Registered engineers and architects in Karnataka will face a penalty of ₹2 lakh if a building constructed under their certified plans violates the government-approved design, according to provisions in the Karnataka Decriminalisation (Amendment of Provisions) Bill.

The Bill amends Section 73 of the Karnataka Town and Country Planning Act, making professionals responsible for ensuring that construction follows the sanctioned plans. Repeated violations may lead to cancellation of the registration or license of the concerned engineer or architect.

Other key changes include:

  • Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Act (Section 62): Removal of imprisonment provisions for offences such as trespassing on water supply premises, occupying a house without proper water supply, or connecting private drains without notice.
  • Karnataka Industries (Facilitation) Act: Penalties on enterprises violating industrial project norms have been revised to ₹2 lakh for the first offence and ₹4 lakh for subsequent offences.

The amendments are aimed at ensuring accountability in building practices and simplifying compliance under existing laws.
