Pune Unveils Iconic Pedestrian Bridge Linking Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan Metro Station to Shanivar Peth

Pune: A new pedestrian bridge connecting the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Udyan Metro Station with Shanivar Peth has been opened to the public, marking a major milestone in Pune’s urban infrastructure.

The bridge, part of Pune Metro’s Phase 1 (Vanaz–Ramwadi corridor), is designed to improve metro accessibility for residents of the historic Peth areas and enhance pedestrian movement across the Mutha River.

Spanning 179.7 meters in length and 8 meters in width, the bridge features advanced cable-stayed technology, supported by India’s first 70-degree inclined concrete pylon with 20 high-tension cables. Only two supporting pillars were placed in the riverbed to maintain the natural flow of water.

Architecturally, the bridge reflects Pune’s cultural heritage. Its design is inspired by the Tanpura, a classical Indian instrument, paying tribute to the nearby Balgandharva Rangmandir. The structure seamlessly blends modern engineering with cultural symbolism, offering both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

The bridge is expected to provide significant ease of access for residents of Shanivar Peth, Narayan Peth, and surrounding neighborhoods, making cross-river commuting faster and more convenient.
