Jodhpur, Rajasthan | Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 4, 2026, inaugurated the new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport and launched the Modified UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) Scheme, marking a significant step in strengthening India’s regional aviation network. The new terminal, developed by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) at a cost of ₹480 crore, is expected to enhance passenger experience, improve regional connectivity, and support tourism and economic growth in Rajasthan.

Spread over more than 23,000 square metres, the new terminal building has the capacity to handle up to 20 lakh passengers annually. Designed with a blend of traditional Rajasthani architecture and modern airport infrastructure, the terminal incorporates heritage-inspired elements such as arches, jharokhas, decorative jaalis, and cultural murals, reflecting the rich architectural legacy of the state. The building also integrates sustainable design features, including energy-efficient systems and water conservation measures, and is targeting a 5-Star GRIHA rating.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi described July 4 as “a very special day” for the people of Jodhpur, stating that the upgraded airport would strengthen tourism, trade, and business opportunities across the region. He noted that Jodhpur holds a prominent place on India’s tourism map and that improved air connectivity would encourage greater domestic and international travel.

Alongside the terminal inauguration, the Prime Minister launched the Modified UDAN Scheme, a revamped regional connectivity initiative aimed at expanding India’s aviation network. The scheme focuses on developing 100 aerodromes from existing unserved airstrips, establishing 200 new helipads, strengthening operations and maintenance support, and improving connectivity to remote and underserved regions over the next decade.

The inauguration of the new terminal represents another milestone in India’s airport modernization programme. With enhanced passenger facilities, heritage-inspired architecture, and sustainable infrastructure, the Jodhpur Airport terminal is expected to play a key role in supporting the city’s growing tourism industry and regional economic development.
