On December 20, the Prime Minister will arrive in Guwahati around 3:00 pm to inaugurate the newly constructed Integrated Terminal Building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport. He will also undertake a walkthrough of the facility and address a public gathering on the occasion. The inauguration marks a significant milestone in Assam’s aviation infrastructure and regional connectivity.
The new terminal, spread across nearly 1.4 lakh square metres, has been designed to handle up to 13 million passengers annually. It is supported by upgraded runway and airfield systems, including new aprons and taxiways. Conceived as India’s first nature-themed airport terminal, the building reflects Assam’s biodiversity and cultural heritage through its “Bamboo Orchids” design concept. Locally sourced bamboo, Kaziranga-inspired green landscapes, traditional japi motifs, and orchid-themed columns are integrated into the architecture, alongside a “Sky Forest” featuring nearly one lakh indigenous plants.
The terminal also introduces advanced passenger-centric and digital features such as full-body scanners, DigiYatra-enabled contactless travel, automated baggage handling systems, fast-track immigration, and AI-supported airport operations aimed at improving efficiency, safety, and travel experience.
On December 21, at around 9:45 am, the Prime Minister will visit Swahid Smarak Kshetra to pay homage to the martyrs of the historic Assam Movement, a six-year mass movement that played a defining role in safeguarding the state’s identity.
Later in the day, he will travel to Namrup in Dibrugarh district to perform the Bhoomi Pujan for a new brownfield Ammonia–Urea Fertilizer Project at the premises of Brahmaputra Valley Fertilizer Corporation Limited. The project, with an estimated investment exceeding ₹10,600 crore, is expected to strengthen fertilizer availability in Assam and neighbouring states, reduce import dependence, create employment opportunities, and contribute to regional industrial growth and farmers’ welfare.
The Prime Minister will also address gatherings at both Guwahati and Namrup, outlining the broader vision for infrastructure-led development and economic transformation in the Northeast.
