Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, chaired a high-level Consultation Workshop in New Delhi, focusing on innovative policy measures for sustainable highway development. The session saw the participation of Union Minister of State Shri Ajay Tamta, Shri Harsh Malhotra, senior state government officials, and municipal commissioners.

The workshop underscored the government’s commitment to building world-class, sustainable, and future-ready transport infrastructure, with particular emphasis on addressing traffic congestion in fast-growing urban areas. Key discussions revolved around the development of ring roads and bypasses to divert highway traffic away from city centers, thereby improving mobility and reducing urban congestion.
Participants also explored the adoption of value capture financing models to ensure sustainable funding mechanisms, along with aligning highway expansion projects with city master plans for seamless integration. These strategies aim to promote well-regulated development in the influence zones of ring roads and bypasses, while also enhancing connectivity.
Reaffirming its vision, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) highlighted that such initiatives will not only strengthen economic growth but also support inclusive, environmentally responsible urban development across India.
